MANDATE OF THE DEPARTMENT:
UNAIDS is mandated by the UN General Assembly to collect data from countries and report progress towards global AIDS response targets.
The Data for Impact Practice leads this AIDS response tracking and reporting, tracks progress and responses towards established targets, identifies inequalities and gaps in the AIDS response, and works to enhance countries' strategic information capacities on the HIV epidemic and response with regards to epidemiology and demographic impact, prevention, treatment and care, societal enablers including laws and policies, and resources (resources with the Equitable Financing Practice).

Main tasks and Responsibilities of the Position:
Reporting to the Senior Advisor for surveillance, Data for Impact Practice and working in close collaboration with other team members, the incumbent is responsible for the following activities:
Support the management and analysis of the Global AIDS response data collected by UNAIDS, through the development of innovative strategies for data collection, management and analysis for the global AIDS reporting process, in close collaboration with team members.
Support the management, updating and enhancement of the Key Population Atlas platform, including innovative strategies for data collection, extraction and dissemination.
Review scientific reports with relevant data on key populations to extract indicator data and metadata and evaluate the quality of the data.
Support data validation activities, including retrospective data reviews, in liaison with focal points from reporting countries, specifically for the key population indicators.
Manage and respond to communications related to Key Population Atlas and data reporting, including interacting with Key Population Network representatives and community organization regarding obtaining new data, or assessing data quality
Oversee the development of innovative dissemination strategies and tools, e.g. GIS-based story maps using narratives based on data displayed in the Atlas.
Perform any other related responsibilities as assigned, including replacing and/or backstopping for others.
Performs other duties as required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS |
Education: Essential: Advanced university degree (MSc) in information management, mathematical, biological, social or health sciences or other related fields. A relevant first university degree and 7 years of relevant professional experience will be considered as equivalent for internal candidates only. |

Experience:
Essential: At least five years' experience in data management and data analysis related to HIV and AIDS. Experience reviewing surveys and/or programme data reports to assess quality.
Desirable: Experience in the UN system and/or civil society organizations. Experience with data important to monitoring the HIV epidemic and response among key populations. Experience with database management systems such as MSSQL. Experience with GIS software packages such as ArcGIS or QGIS.

Languages:
Essential: Proficiency in English.
Desirable: Knowledge of additional UN official languages.

Additional Information:
Positions at the international professional category within UNAIDS will be subject to the Organization's Mobility Policy. The above-mentioned position is a rotational position and its standard duration of assignment is linked to the ICSC hardship classification of the duty station.
