MANDATE OF THE DEPARTMENT:
Provide leadership and coordinate support for an expanded UN system response to support countries towards ending the AIDS epidemic as part of the Sustainable Development Goals. To promote, support and provide guidance to national partners and the UN system in reaching Global AIDS targets by 2020 with a Fast-Track approach to rapidly scale up HIV services focused on populations and in locations most affected by the epidemic. Promote effective use of strategic information and documentation of trends on the epidemic and the response as well as provide intellectual leadership on the status of the response to HIV in the country.
Main tasks and Responsibilities of the Position:
Under the supervision of the responsible Officer, the incumbent provides reliable and safe driving services to the operations and program staff (including consultants) in the Office.
Drive official vehicles for the transport of UNAIDS staff, officials and visitors, meeting personnel and visitors at the airport and assisting them with basic visa and customs formalities when required; and ensure the delivery and collection of mail, documents and other items.
Ensure cost-savings through proper use of vehicle through adequate maintenance of daily vehicle logs, provision of inputs to preparation of the vehicle maintenance plans and reports, as well as the proper day-to-day maintenance, including minor repairs, arrangements for major repairs, timely changes of oil, check of tires, brakes and water levels, car washing, etc so that the vehicle is clean and in good running condition at all times.
Safe-keep all the required documents/supplies such as insurance, registration papers, vehicle logs, office directory, map of the city/country, first aid kit, and other spare parts, as well as keeping track of insurance and other tax formalities.
As required, provide informal interpretation services from/to the local language for the head of the office and official personnel using the car.
Provide general office assistance to office staff, including but not limited to filing, photocopying and maintaining stocks of stationary; in the mailing and distribution of newsletters and publications; payments of office telephone and other bills, as required.
Perform other related duties as assigned, including provision of support as required.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Essential:
Completion of secondary school, or relevant technical or vocational training. Must have a valid and clean driver's license.
Desirable:
Training or demonstrated knowledge of vehicle mechanic.

Experience:
Essential:
A minimum of two years' experience as driver of officials in an international institution, governmental organization, embassy or UN system with an excellent knowledge of the local traffic rules, regulations and geography.
Languages:
Essential:
A good knowledge of English, together with that of the local language.
Desirable:
Knowledge of another UN official language.
Additional Information:
Please note that for this vacancy only nationals of Uganda or legal residents holding a valid residence or work permit living within commuting distance to Moroto are eligible.
