MANDATE OF THE DEPARTMENT:
The Executive Office (EXO) provides vision, leadership and inspiration to UNAIDS, it highlights and drives emerging issues, focus areas and steers the organization, positioning it as a global leader on ending AIDS.
The EXO facilitates communication and coordination within the UNAIDS and with partners while serving a reference and intelligence hub. EXO is responsible for maintaining effective management practices within the organization to ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of its operations.
Main tasks and Responsibilities of the Position:
Under the overall guidance of the Chief of Staff (CoS), the incumbent has the following responsibilities:
- Drive innovation through technology and data sharing. Overall management and support for the Insight Dashboard. This includes the building of the Dashboard, ongoing management and updates.
- Provide strategic legal and policy guidance to the Executive Director (EXD) on best practices and sound prevention strategies for the organization.
- Provide risk analysis on key political and issue areas as well as assessments on emerging issue areas in a changing environment.
- Develop and enhance EXD's systematic engagements with global leaders (Heads of State and Government, Ministers, CEOs, global thought leaders, etc.).
- Secure and support regular EXD's meetings with senior UN leaders, including the Secretary-General, Deputy-Secretary-General, President of the UN General Assembly, UNDG, CEB, CCO and engagements with UN Heads of Agencies, including in particular UNAIDS Cosponsor Heads of Agencies.
- Provide lead support for EXD at high-level events, including Opening of UNGA, International and Regional AIDS Conferences, meetings of the UNAIDS PCB, etc.
- Guidance and support for EXD speeches, opinion articles, reports and coordination of speechwriting. Final clearance, editing and review of all EXD publications and public remarks. Drafting and editing of EXD's reports to the PCB and other EXD articles and speeches, as needed. Review and final clearance of EXD letters, reports, op-eds and other documents for EXD signature.
- Lead the EXO Front Office and manage the EXO Front Office (FRO) team. Management of EXD Front Office staff, and other responsibilities as Deputy Chief of Staff. Manage FRO workplan, budget and results during the biennium.
- Guidance and support for EXD on key contacts, special initiatives and global engagements.
- Provide EXD with new opportunities and contacts (ie G20, G8, BRICS etc.). Ensure EXD is briefed on relevant issues and key messages.
- Scan relevant global sources and contacts for relevant political, scientific, and programmatic developments.
- Organize and support EXD briefings on key political, scientific, and programmatic issues.
- Develop and clear high-quality briefing materials for EXD.
- Support the Chief of Staff in responsibilities, most particularly oversight and coordinating the Regional Support Teams (RSTs) and Liaison Offices (LOs) and coordination with both Geneva based branches. Lead upon specific areas of work as defined by the Chief of Staff.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Essential: Advanced university degree, at Master's level or equivalent, in social sciences, public health, development, economics, law, public administration or management. For internal candidates a first university degree and 17 years of experience will be considered as equivalent.

Experience:
Essential: A minimum of 15 years' experience leading and managing partnership programmes, in particular partnerships with a broad range of stake holders including academia, tech industry, the private sector, civil society, Member States, UN system Organizations other international organizations.
Languages:
Essential: Advanced knowledge of English.

Desirable: Good working knowledge of another official UN language.
Additional Information:
In addition to the salary, the post adjustment for Geneva applies.
Annual salary: (Net of tax)
USD 97,805 at single rate
