Regional Support Team, Asia and Pacific
Duty station:  Bangkok Thailand
UNAIDS Regional Support Teams (RSTs) provide timely and effective support to UNAIDS Country Offices, while working with regional partners to coordinate and provide programming and technical support to strengthen national responses. RSTs provide regional leadership and ensure advocacy at regional level.
Main tasks and Responsibilities of the Position:
The Data Analyst will be part of the team working on the HIV and AIDS Data Hub for Asia and the Pacific (hereafter, the Data Hub). The Data Hub (DH) was launched in 2008 and has become a key resource and important support for countries and regional partners in the Asia-Pacific region.
Reporting to the RSTAP Regional Programme Advisor Strategic Information, the Data Analyst will take a lead role in all activities in the areas of data collection, organization, validation, analysis and synthesis to generate strategic information for partners and the Data Hub website.
In particular, the Data Analyst will
 Identify key data issues and validating data collected from partners and other sources.
 Conduct data collation analysis and synthesis to prepare Data Hub products and slides to populate the website, and in collaboration with regional and national partners for their SI needs.
 Manage the systematic update of the HIV and AIDS database and development of inputs to populate website
 Build regional and country partnerships with key focal points at country and regional level and collaborations around data generation, analysis and use
 Provide technical assistance to country and regional partners in modelling estimates of modes of transmission, new and prevalent HIV infections, AIDS deaths, and treatment needs of countries using East-West Center AIDS Epidemic Model and UNAIDS/WHO Estimates and Projection Package
 Proofread and propose revisions of DH written and website products
 Update and validate HIV and AIDS data for countries and sub-regions of Asia-Pacific (e.g. ASEAN, SAARC, PICT, etc) and on specific key populations and topics
 Prepare new Data Hub regional strategic information products such as data syntheses, reviews and slides in following thematic area: Treatment and Prevention of Mother-to-Child Transmission, Sex Workers, People who Inject Drugs, Surveillance, and AIDS Financing and Investment.
 Update the regional database and evidence of updated website products
 Expand strategic information on the Data Hub website that is collected from regional partners, countries and technical literature.
 Prepare country galleries, including sets of power-point presentations on HIV and AIDS with most current data, and updates on data issues and validity related to newly obtained data, which are relevant and useful for various levels of stakeholders
Essential: A University Degree in public health, epidemiology, reproductive health or related field, or MBBS
Desirable: An advanced university degree in the above mentioned fields

At least 3 to 6 years previous experience in public health research, in particular HIV/AIDS-related or reproductive health knowledge and/or work experience, preferably in Asia-Pacific region
. Minimum 3 years of progressively responsible professional experience at regional and/or international level in data management, statistical analysis, and a good understanding of governments' data operations
. Experience in health data synthesis and analysis, in particular related to HIV and AIDS
. Experience in the use of various research methodologies and sources, including electronic sources on the internet, intranet and other databases.
. Experience with computer databases, including SQL, Excel, Access etc. Experience with data dissemination through the web an advantage.
. Experience with HIV epidemic modeling packages such as EPP and AEM
Essential: Excellent command of the English language with quality written and verbal communication skills.
Desirable: Knowledge of another UN official language or a local language of the South/East/Southeast Asia region

Annual salary: (Net of tax)
56,198 US$ at single rate
60,205 US$ with primary dependants
Post Adjustment: 45 % of the figure(s) on the left side. This percentage is to be considered as indicative since variations may occur each month either upwards or downwards due to currency exchange rate fluctuations or inflation.
