MANDATE OF THE DEPARTMENT:
Our mission is to effectively position UNAIDS and our issues with key audiences. And to create, manage and share knowledge with partners and potential partners in the AIDS response.

Main tasks and Responsibilities of the Position:
Under the guidance of the Chief, Communications team, the incumbent has the following responsibilities: - To define and implement the UNAIDS Internal Communication strategy that contributes to the comprehensive UNAIDS communication strategy. - To develop and implement UNAIDS event strategy and guidelines as well as to monitor key events for the organization. - To proactively collaborate with stakeholder departments, including PRG, MER and EXO to help develop and implement internal communications strategy, advising and coordinating internal launches of major communication campaign projects. To work closely with focal points of key events such as the International AIDS Conferences. - To lead coordination of special events and initiatives for UNAIDS including side events and the United Nations, in country and for other global initiatives. - To take the lead in writing and coordinating the production of the UNAIDS briefing book for staff, Cosponsors and external partners. - Provide guidance and advice the UNAIDS Senior Staff on effective positioning of UNAIDS and current HIV issues in the global media. Prepare talking points and provide messaging input to key speeches and presentations. - Part of the team to organize press conferences and briefings with UNAIDS Staff and other partners, advising them on key issues and providing them with press materials and media training - Maintain communication relationships with UNAIDS Cosponsors and other key stakeholders to ensure harmonization of messaging and maximizing effectiveness of UN led global communication efforts on HIV. - To organize internal meetings and briefings with UNAIDS, staff, cosponsors and other partners, drafting the agenda, preparing presentations and ensuring the dissemination of information in a timely and efficient manner. - To serve as focal point for the content manage portions of the internal/external Web sites on issues concerning internal communications and organisational events, posting web stories and other documentation as appropriate. - Within the delegated authority, to commissioned and manage consultants, interns and other staff briefing them on UNAIDS style, needs and procedures. - To undertake related assignments as required by the Chief, Communications team, and to replace other Communications Officers during absences and share workload during periods of high demand.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS |
Education: Essential: Advanced university degree in communication, public relations, journalism, public or business administration, international relations, social sciences or a combination of academic preparation and experience. |

Experience:
Essential: At least seven years of experience in communications, media relations, public relations or development field in governmental, international organizations/institutions, with at least two years of experience in communication related area.
Desirable: Experience in project management, event management, including coordinating or organizing and facilitating interagency working groups and partners meeting at national and international level.

Languages:
Essential: Excellent knowledge of English, French and/or Spanish, with good working knowledge of the other language(s). Desirable: Knowledge of another UN official language.

67,483 USD at single rate 72,467 USD with primary dependants
