MANDATE OF THE DEPARTMENT:
The Technology and Innovation Department (TIN) ensures that information technology is a strategic enabler of the vision of Getting to Zero, and contributes to the transition from managing a disease to ending an epidemic. TIN makes possible new ways of collaboration, facilitates greater sharing of knowledge and provides new tools to reach out and communicate - with unprecedented reach and speed - with our key stakeholders and constituencies. To play this important role, the department is an agent of change, contributing to making UNAIDS work fast, smart and efficiently.
Main tasks and Responsibilities of the Position:
The mission of Technology Management Division is to deliver innovative, cost effective, and secure technology solutions for improving the efficiency and effectiveness of UNAIDS in achieving its mandate.
Reporting to the Chief Technology Management Division, the IT Support Assistant coordinates the IT service delivery needs of Geneva headquarters staff, providing the critical link between staff needs and performs the day to day operations of information and communication technologies. The role will involve a close alignment and coordination with Field & Remote Support Division. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Provide IT support to the Field and Remote Support on all headquarters IT issues and staff support requests, ensuring great customer service throughout the assigned ticket lifecycle. Actively promote the optimum use of the established IT services and end-user technologies capability to maximise the efficiency and effectiveness of staff operations.
- Analyze and quickly resolve user problems; provide proximity user support to headquarters staff for devices and applications with the aim of facilitating the ease of business tools utilization. Represent TIN to headquarters user community through support of UNAIDS IT standards and systems.
- Diagnose network connectivity and IT usage related problems recommending practical and timely solutions, escalating to 3rd level support where required.
- Prepare, package and deploy end-user devices including desktop, laptops, tablets, mobile devices, audio/visual, printers, and network and ensure that the appropriate systems and applications matched the established standards. Manage and follow a formal release management process to hand off products to the Field & Remote Support divisions.
- Ensure that all end-user tools and devices (computers, monitors, mobile devices, scanners, printers, laptops and related software) are routinely inventoried, configured, updated and serviced according to manufacturers and UNAIDS IT policy standards. Manage the Geneva IT inventory & equipment disposal process.
- Maintain sufficient stock of desktops, laptops and other IT accessories and ensure that the fixed IT asset list is kept up to date with the correct information, matching purchase orders to physical and non-physical IT purchases.
- Perform the day to day operations of information and communication technologies including network, telecommunication and system administration functions ensuring the security and confidentiality of all information through the application of best practices and approved security policies.
- Coordinate with and provide support to the Global Service Desk /First level support in the planning and management of an effective user support and training structure.
- Coach UNAIDS staff on the use of standard office automation software and UNAIDS systems and technologies.
- Support in planning, designing and implementation of global telecommunication infrastructure and end-user / mobile worker technologies. Assist in maintaining robust, reliable, efficient and flexible telecommunication and computer-based systems. Provide practical feedback to all TIN divisions regarding ease of use based on support questions received.
- Provide specialized IT equipment service and support to meetings, conferences and high-profile events.
- Undertake special assignments within or outside TIN at the request of the Chief Technology Management Division after discussion with the remote support/first level support.
- Perform other related duties or assignments as assigned by the Chief Technology Management Division and participate in on-call rotation.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Essential: Completion of secondary school education complemented by formal training in computer science or related field, ITIL Foundation Certification in IT Service Management is required.
Desirable: First university degree in Computer Science or related field. Relevant certification in e.g. Microsoft, UNIX, Juniper, Cisco.

Experience:
Essential: A minimum of 8 to 9 years' experience in the area of Information & Communication technology of which three years' experience is required in user support and day-to-day operations of information and communication technologies including network, telecommunication and system administration functions.
Languages:
Essential: Excellent knowledge of English and French.
Desirable: Good working knowledge of another official UN language

Further, employment with UNAIDS is subject to successful completion of the ICDL (International Computer Driving Licence). The test includes tasks on Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint, etc) required in an office environment at UNAIDS.
Annual salary: (Net of tax)
82,248 CHF at single rate
82,248 CHF with primary dependants
