MANDATE OF THE DEPARTMENT:
Our mission is to effectively position UNAIDS and our issues with key audiences. And to create, manage and share knowledge with partners and potential partners in the AIDS response. We work with a multimedia approach including communications, web and social media.
Main tasks and Responsibilities of the Position:
Under the overall guidance and supervision of the Head, Communications the incumbent will:
-Develop and implement video and audio-visual creative strategy for UNAIDS at the global, regional, country and internal levels (including consolidating work in several areas: video, photography, graphic design and branding templates).
-Manage and maintain on behalf of UNAIDS direct relationships with audio-visual based media networks (broadcast and internet) on a regular basis for placing UNAIDS audio visual material and lining up interviews for senior UNAIDS staff, proposing story ideas and dissemination of strategic information on emerging HIV related issues through these networks.
-To take the lead in production of short videos on issues related to AIDS, including scriptwriting, filming, editing and dissemination.
-Lead and coordinate new video and creative cross-cutting projects to promote UNAIDS priorities through web, traditional media and social media outlets.
-Project manage cross-cutting audio-visual initiatives across the team with in the section as well as the UNAIDS Secretariat and other non-UN partners.
-Coordinate audio-visual work with UNAIDS Cosponsors and other United Nations stakeholders to ensure harmonization of messaging and maximizing effectiveness of UN led audio-visual communication efforts on HIV.
-Guide country and regional offices in development of media partnerships, including relationships with media organizations and channels.
-To generate story ideas and undertake a range of writing assignments, including press releases, feature stories, holding statements, fact sheets, Q&As, newsletters, op-eds, as well as key messages and talking points as appropriate.
-To organize media training for staff.
Manage and mentor video and creative consultants.
-Develop and implement policy and guidelines for branding and creative efforts for UNAIDS
-Undertake related assignments as required by the Head, Communications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Essential: A first university degree in communications, broadcasting/film and/or journalism.
Desirable: Training on digital media.
Competencies:
Demonstrated ability to conceptualize problems, think strategically and implement solutions
Technical skills in using multiple digital video technology and formats. Writing skills for media - web, print and audio-visual. Demonstrated writing and editing skills combined with strong organizational and analytical skills, creativity and problem-solving skills
Understanding of new media channels and experience in outreach.
Ability to express clearly and concisely, ideas and concepts in written and oral form.
Extensive knowledge in managing video and creative productions.
Working knowledge of Microsoft project, in-design, video editing, HTML and content management systems
Strong organizational skills; proven writing and editing skills; creativity and problem-solving skills
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Knowledge of AIDS programmes, research, planning, coordination and advocacy processes.

Experience:
Essential: At least seven years of experience in digital media or related field, with at least 4 years of experience focused on working with video, web and audio-visual journalism. Increasing levels of managerial responsibility. Extensive experience in shooting, editing and producing video and multi-media pieces. Experience writing for a range of media including print, web, and audio-visual. Proven work experience in establishing contacts with broadcast media and ability to strengthen them. Expertise and experience in developing concepts for a broad range of digital and video experiences. Leadership experience in leading large-and small-scale strategic brainstorming sessions, and concept development.
Desirable: Experiences and ability to think creatively meeting demanding deadlines with sensitive attention to detail. Proven awareness and interests in new platforms and technologies for communications.
Languages:
Essential: Advanced knowledge of English, with a working knowledge of French.
Desirable: Knowledge of another UN official language.
Additional Information:
Positions at the international professional category within UNAIDS may be subject to the Organization's Mobility Policy.
Annual salary: (Net of tax)
66482 US$ at single rate
71393 US$ with primary dependants
Post Adjustment: 95.1 % of the figure(s) on the left side. This percentage is to be considered as indicative since variations may occur each month either upwards or downwards due to currency exchange rate fluctuations or inflation.
