MANDATE OF THE DEPARTMENT:
The Evidence, Strategy and Results Department leads the UNAIDS technical and programmatic approach to the HIV epidemic and enhances understanding of the global response. It develops evidence, strategies and tools to improve decision-making, analyses trends and engages stakeholders at all levels to expand knowledge and maximize the use of resources. The Department contributes to achieving Universal Access and the MDGs through advocating ambitious and effective policies and programmes to address the needs of vulnerable people. ESR comprises the Prevention, Vulnerability and Rights (PVR) and the Improved Country Response (ICR) divisions, and the Strategy Support and Evaluation (SSE) group. The mission of the SSE group is to catalyze and support the development of forward-looking strategies and innovative approaches to enhance the response to the AIDS epidemic. The group works across UNAIDS and externally to help identify issues, explore agendas, build evidence, and support strategic planning and analysis for a coordinated and effective response to HIV and AIDS.

Main tasks and Responsibilities of the Position:
The Programme Officer is a member of the SSE team and reports to the Team Leader. Working with other members of the SSE team, the Programme Officer:
1. Compiles and consolidates insights from within and outside UNAIDS on new and innovative strategic approaches and formulates concrete products to advance the discussion; 2. Develops the evidence base for new and innovative approaches by reviewing, analyzing and synthesizing policy and research documents and country information related to particular areas of SSE attention; 3. Establishes and maintains a depository of key strategic documents and identifies case examples related to particular areas of SSE attention; 4. Promotes effective coordination and collaboration across the Programme Branch, and provides strategic guidance and support on specific issues; 5. Collaborates proactively and provides guidance to other departments, regional and country offices on policy and strategy development collaboration; 6. Coordinates and supports cross-cutting strategies and systems to promote technical coherence and efficiency across the Joint Programme, which may include the provision of active and flexible support to Department teams in areas of particular strategic importance for time- or task-limited periods; and, 7. Performs any other duties as assigned.

Education: Advanced university degree in development studies, public health or social or biomedical sciences |

Additional Information:
Positions at the international professional category within UNAIDS may be subject to the Organization's Mobility Policy. The above mentioned position is a rotational position and its standard duration of assignment is linked to the ICSC hardship classification of the duty station.

85 % of the figure(s) on the left side. This percentage is to be considered as indicative since variations may occur each month either upwards or downwards due to currency exchange rate fluctuations or inflation. |
