MANDATE OF THE DEPARTMENT:
The partnership function of UNAIDS works to harness the strategic strengths of a broad range of stakeholders-including governments, civil society and the private sector- to strengthen and fully resource the response to AIDS at the global, regional and country levels.
Under the overall direction of the Deputy Executive Director, Management and External Relations, the private sector partnerships function focuses on harnessing the private sector's contribution to Universal Access to HIV prevention, treatment, care and support. It provides strategic direction for effective and sustainable partnerships with the private sector across the UNAIDS Secretariat in close collaboration with cosponsors manages key relationships with the private sector and networks.
The Partnership Advisor will be reporting to the Chief, Private Sector Partnerships.
Main tasks and Responsibilities of the Position:
- Contributes to the implementation of the new partnership strategy of UNAIDS focusing on a stronger role for the private sector in enhancing universal access and making the AIDS response an integral component of achieving the Millennium Development Goals.
- Stimulate and foster new partnerships between UNAIDS and private sector entities as well as build alliances and further develop existing relationships with private sector partners.
- Responsible for supporting UNAIDS's work in the area of private sector partnerships and implementing a strategy to maximize the impact of the private sector to advance UNAIDS' priorities.
- Manages and supports key global UNAIDS' business partnerships developing logic models to demonstrate how private sector engagement can be an effective strategy and identifying areas for further work and potential collaboration in this key area.
- Manages a data base of profiles of business sector institutions and key individuals, promotes the exchange of information, ideas and best practices, as well as provide necessary reporting to the Chief, Private Sector Partnerships.
- Coordinates UNAIDS private sector sectoral initiatives (e.g. tourism, pharmaceutical and diagnostic industries, and others).
- Works in close collaboration with business hubs such as the employers' federations, national business coalitions and labour unions for a stronger response to AIDS and participates in their consensus-building processes.
- Supports private sector's greater contribution to HIV programmes in countries.
- Cooperates with the Global Fund to Fight HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria for a greater contribution of the private sector.
- Coordinates the involvement of UNAIDS in public-private partnerships (PPPs) at global and country levels: maintaining an overview of key PPPs managed by others across the organization, providing support and strategic advice, as necessary.
- Mobilizes financial and technical resources from the private sector and other actors.
- Provides research, identifies and analyzes emerging issues related to the private sector and prepares draft reports, briefings and summaries, as required.
- Represents UNAIDS in the global private sector and AIDS arena when ever assigned, including in the UN Business network.
- Performs other duties, as required by broader Partnerships and External Relations Department.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Advanced university degree in management, strategic communication and/or other related field.
Competencies:
Excellent writing, communication and presentation skills.
Excellent understanding of the AIDS epidemic - including the role of private sector organizations in the AIDS response- and broader health issues.
Computer skills, including internet navigation and various office applications
Experience:
At least seven years of experience in establishing partnerships with the private sector at the national and international levels - including the development, management, communication, monitoring, and evaluation of such partnerships.
Excellent working knowledge of the United Nations System.
Specific experiences in AIDS related partnerships a major asset.
Previous experience in working in the private sector desirable
Languages:
Advanced level of English with a good working knowledge of French or Spanish. Knowledge of another UN language an asset.
Additional Information:
Positions at the international professional category within UNAIDS may be subject to the Organization's Mobility Policy.
Annual salary: (Net of tax)
66,482 at single rate
71,393 with primary dependants
Post Adjustment: % of the figure(s) on the left side. This percentage is to be considered as indicative since variations may occur each month either upwards or downwards due to currency exchange rate fluctuations or inflation.
