MANDATE OF THE DEPARTMENT:
To provide leadership on the epidemiological analysis of the AIDS epidemic by regularly disseminating up-to-date estimates and analyses of the epidemic and its impact; by developing, applying and promoting high quality approaches and tools for epidemiological analysis and evaluation with a focus on the implications for prevention, treatment and impact alleviation programming.

Main tasks and Responsibilities of the Position:
1. Develop and improve analytic methods including modelling approaches for analysing the contribution of changes in behaviours, incidence, migration, mortality, and treatment to changes in HIV prevalence.
2. Develop analyses of the burden, impact and dynamics of HIV infection in countries through the use of standardized methods and tools, regional training, in-country support for consensus workshops, and technical support to in-country staff.
3. Compile and disseminate behavioural surveillance and research data, and regularly assess the quality of behavioural surveillance.
4. Provide analyses, narrative input and review for UNAIDS' and partners reports on the epidemic and its impact.
5. Provide advice to clients within and beyond the UNAIDS Secretariat on issues related to behavioural analyses and epidemiologic impact evaluation, especially regarding the programmatic implications of these analyses. 6. Identify knowledge gaps and define a priority research agenda in behavioural epidemiology and impact evaluation through UNAIDS cosponsor organizations and technical research networks.
7. Perform other related duties as required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS |
Education: Essential: Advanced university degree (Masters or Doctorate) in epidemiology or social sciences or biostatistics. Desirable: Specialization in HIV epidemiology and/or behavioural science.

Competencies:
Strong background in behavioural epidemiology and infectious disease modelling Good working knowledge of statistical software packages.
|
Experience:
Eleven to fifteen years' experience in HIV epidemiology and/or behavioural surveillance and/or modelling or programme evaluation with at least five years specifically related to HIV.
|
Languages:
LANGUAGES Essential: Excellent knowledge of English, French or Spanish with a working knowledge of one of the other languages. Desirable: Knowledge of another UN official language.

73.3 % of the figure(s) on the left side. This percentage is to be considered as indicative since variations may occur each month either upwards or downwards due to currency exchange rate fluctuations or inflation. |
