MANDATE OF THE DEPARTMENT:
Our mission is to effectively position UNAIDS and our issues with key audiences. And to create, manage and share knowledge with partners and potential partners in the AIDS response. We will work across three areas: Communications, Content management and Web platform and Production.
Main tasks and Responsibilities of the Position:
Under the overall supervision and guidance of Chief, Communications and Knowledge sharing division, the incumbent will lead the Content Management unit with the following responsibilities:
1. Lead and manage the Content management team.
2. Provide strategic planning of UNAIDS' content management activities and direction, including development of strategies for improving effectiveness of marketing and wider readership of UNAIDS publications.
3. Oversee all administrative and financial processes including electronic publications tracking systems and a financial User Pays system, implementing innovation and changes where required.
4. Identify policies, approaches and requirements to meet the information management needs of the Programme.
5. Manage all aspects of the content creation and publishing process in both traditional and new media ensuring cost efficiency and quality control of UNAIDS publications, hard copy and on-line, using up to date technology and in close liaison with the Web Team.
6. Develop production tools, including non-local networks of designers, translators, revisers, editors, and printers that improve quality control and cost-effectiveness of UNAIDS publications.
7. Provide an effective publication marketing and distribution service to internal and external clients.
8. Work with UNAIDS Country Offices, Regional Support Teams, and Cosponsoring Agencies to improve distribution of publications and promote development, production and use of UNAIDS publications at country level.
9. Ensure effective liaison with Cosponsors and non-UN bodies to plan production and marketing of co-publications.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
University degree in communications, science or social sciences; postgraduate qualification in health studies an advantage.
Competencies:
Practical experience of all aspects of the publishing process including commissioning, editing, sales and marketing in an international academic publishing house. Knowledge or good understanding of AIDS response, research, planning, coordination and advocacy processes would be an advantage. Strong organizational and analytical skills, complemented with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to facilitate and engage leaders at all levels skills. Working knowledge of HTML and content management systems, desktop publishing, translations or graphic. Knowledge of Microsoft Project or other project management tool desirable. Ability to communicate and write in a clear and concise manner combined with creativity and problem-solving skills. Proven leadership, managerial and facilitation abilities. Demonstrated interpersonal skills, complemented by superior writing and facilitation abilities. Ability to work and produce results under pressure. Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
Experience:
Minimum eight years experience, including managerial, in at least two distinct functions of publishing. Proven abilities in team supervising and managing. Experience of working within the UN system an advantage.
Languages:
Native English and good working knowledge in an other UN language.
Additional Information:
In close collaboration with the International Civil Service Commission UNAIDS is developing and testing a system of reward for contribution and a broad-banded salary structure (Band1: P1 and P2, Band 2: P3, P4 and P5, Band 3: D1 and D2). As this system is being tested the existing grading system will be maintained until further notice. This post is at the P5 grade under the current grading system.
Annual salary: (Net of tax)
73 975US$ at single rate
79 628US$ with primary dependants
Post Adjustment: 73.9 % of the figure(s) on the left side. This percentage is to be considered as indicative since variations may occur each month either upwards or downwards due to currency exchange rate fluctuations or inflation.
