MANDATE OF THE DEPARTMENT:
Our mission is to effectively position UNAIDS and our issues with key audiences. And to create, manage and share knowledge with partners and potential partners in the AIDS response. We will work across three areas: Communications, Content management and Web platform and Production.
Main tasks and Responsibilities of the Position:
Under the supervision of the Head, Communications team, the incumbent has the following responsibilities:
1. To proactively collaborate with stakeholder departments, including HR, IMT, EXO to help develop and implement internal communications strategy, advising and coordinating internal launches of major projects such as Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP).
2. To undertake a range of writing assignment, including but not limited to writing talking points, fact sheets, Q&As, newsletters, presentations, and other assignments as required.
3. To organize internal meetings and briefings with UNAIDS, staff, cosponsors and other partners, writing the agenda, preparing presentations and ensuring the dissemination of information in a timely and efficient manner .
4. To serve as focal point for the content manage portions of the internal/external Web sites on issues concerning internal communications, posting web stories and other documentation as appropriate.
5. Within the delegated authority, to commissioned and manage consultants, interns and other staff briefing them on UNAIDS style, needs and procedures.
6. To undertake related assignments as required by the Head, Communications team, and to replace other Communications Officers during absences and share workload during periods of high demands.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
University degree in communication, public relations, journalism, public or business administration, social sciences, or a combination of academic preparation and experience.
Competencies:
Knowledge of AIDS programmes, research, planning, coordination and advocacy processes. Sound knowledge or experience with media, NGO's donor agencies, government and multilateral programmes-ability to facilitate and engage leaders at all levels. Demonstrated writing and editing skills combined with strong organizational and analytical skills, creativity and problem-solving skills. Working knowledge of HTML and content management systems.
Experience:
Three to six years experience in communications, media relations, public relations or development field in governmental, international organizations / institutions, with at least two years of country work experience in communication related area. Desirable: Experience in project management, event management, including coordinating or organizing and facilitating interagency working groups and partners meetings at national and international level.
Languages:
Excellent knowledge of English, French and/or Spanish, with good working knowledge of the other language(s). Desirable: Knowledge of another UN official language.
Additional Information:
In close collaboration with the International Civil Service Commission UNAIDS is developing and testing a system of reward for contribution and a broad-banded salary structure (Band1: P1 and P2, Band 2: P3, P4 and P5, Band 3: D1 and D2). As this system is being tested the existing grading system will be maintained until further notice. This post is at the P3 grade under the current grading system.
Annual salary: (Net of tax)
51 395US$ at single rate
55 060US$ with primary dependants
Post Adjustment: 73.9 % of the figure(s) on the left side. This percentage is to be considered as indicative since variations may occur each month either upwards or downwards due to currency exchange rate fluctuations or inflation.
